Wooden arc hammocks can be hung almost anywhere there’s a tree. Lightweight wooden arc hammock made by companies like Treehugger Hammocks or Trek Light Gear are perfect for backpacking or hiking trips. There are several ways to hang a hammock without tools, depending on the trees and conditions.
,Find two trees that are anywhere from 10 to 20 feet apart. Try to find trees that have branches at the proper hanging height–although branches aren’t required.
,Make a girth hitch around one of the trees with a webbing strap.
,Make a simple overhand knot with the ends of the webbing strap. Depending on the length between the trees, you will need to either make the knot closer to the end of the strap, or closer to the tree. Clip the end ring of the hammock to the webbing strap with a carabiner.
,Tie a girth hitch around the other tree with the second webbing strap.
,Tie an overhand knot with the ends of the strap. Stretch out the hammock and determine if it will be taught enough between the trees. If necessary, tighten the wooden arc hammock by making the knot further up the webbing–closer to the tree. Connect the strap to the hammock’s end ring with the other carabiner.
